Florida Blocks AP African American Studies

The state of Florida, thanks to efforts from conservative Gov Ron DeSantis, will not be offering the AP African American Studies curriculum. The state claims that the course is not “historically accurate,” despite being vetted by history teachers, professors, and curriculum developers across the nation. Florida could not site specific violations.

It is clear that Florida wants to erase its own racist, classist past by refusing to teach AP African American Studies. Black students in Florida deserve to learn about their heritage and history and the harms that have been committed against minority populations. Florida needs to own up to its past and do better.
