Los Angeles Issues a Call for School Mentors

City leaders in Los Angeles are calling for mentors to help over 27,000 students districtwide. Inspirational mentors from the LA area have a history of helping students reach their potential, discouraging drop out rates, and creating healthy, long-lasting relationships. According to experts, only one hour of mentoring a week is shown to create a positive impact on a student’s life.

Los Angeles public schools are notoriously underfunded due to Prop 13, which is why the city needs mentors more than ever. Ideally, there would be enough teachers, support staff, and guidance counselors to create relationships with students but because of overcrowded classrooms and financial constraints this is not possible.
